NYC Marathon · November 2026

Where to stay

There is no single best marathon hotel in New York. The right room is the one that removes your hardest transfer: the trip to official transportation, the spectator's course access, or the runner's slow walk after the finish.

Choose the operating problem first

Finish-first runners should compare the Upper West Side and Lincoln Square before paying for a generic Midtown address. Ferry-oriented runners can evaluate Lower Manhattan after their official transportation choice is confirmed. Families usually benefit more from a simple reunion and a nearby fallback than from shaving minutes off a sightseeing trip.

Use the interactive board to change role and priority. It ranks five practical bases, explains the tradeoff, and opens a live Stay22 search centered on the selected area. The map is inventory, not editorial endorsement: compare cancellation rules, room layout, elevators, and the actual walk to transit before booking.

  • Keep the first booking refundable until transport and expo details are final.
  • Check the room's total price, including destination fees and taxes.
  • Open the subway route at the hour you will actually travel, not at midday.

The marathon-weekend room test

A useful room supports an early breakfast, stores luggage after checkout, and gives the support crew somewhere obvious to regroup. Ask about elevators, refrigerator access, late checkout, and bag storage before the cancellation window closes.

If two hotels are close in price, choose the one with fewer fragile transfers. Saving a little on the nightly rate can disappear in ride-hail costs, missed reservations, and a miserable post-race journey.

Finish-first

Upper West Side / Lincoln Square

The least complicated base after 26.2 miles: you are north of Columbus Circle and close to the runner exits on Central Park West.

Tradeoff: You pay for the finish location, and race-morning transportation may still require an early cross-town or downtown trip.

Transport-flexible

Midtown West

A practical compromise for subway coverage, Central Park access, and the west-side convention district used for recent expos.

Tradeoff: It is busy, rarely cheap on marathon weekend, and the exact 2026 official-transport pickup still needs confirmation.

Ferry-first

Lower Manhattan

Useful if your confirmed start plan uses the Staten Island Ferry and you value a short pre-dawn walk over finish-line convenience.

Tradeoff: Geographic closeness to Staten Island is not permission to improvise. Runners must follow the transportation option and time assigned by NYRR.

Spectator-first

Downtown Brooklyn

A strong support-crew base for early Brooklyn viewing, food after the course clears, and multiple subway choices into Manhattan.

Tradeoff: The runner still needs a confirmed start plan, and the family faces a longer trip after the Central Park finish.

Budget-first

Long Island City

Worth comparing when Manhattan rates get silly. Subway access can work for Midtown, Queens viewing, and the east side of the course.

Tradeoff: A cheaper room is not cheaper if late-night cabs and complicated race-morning transfers eat the difference.

Edition status

NYRR has confirmed the Sunday, November 1, 2026 race date. Detailed 2026 transportation selections, expo appointments, wave times, viewing controls, and finish-area operations can still change. We use the latest official operating pattern below and mark the decisions that need a final NYRR check.
