At XTERRA, we start in a car-free beach town, then take on 1.5 km of ocean, 26.2 km of technical mountain biking, and 10.4 km of sand and singletrack. August can reach 32 degrees with green-season showers, so wet roots and humidity are the real tax. Entry is still estimated near $150. Partners get an unusually easy race base, with the start, beach, lodging, and restaurants close together.
Better info coming — we're still verifying 4 fields on this race.
Why we'd pick it
- 950 m of climbing: rolling, not pancake-flat.
- Open registration — no lottery to lose.
- A non-racing partner gets a real weekend here — 5/5.
- Race day usually sits 24–32°C, about 55% chance of rain.
The course
The full race combines a 1.5 km Playa Danta swim, 26.2 km of mountain biking on technical dry-forest trails above Las Catalinas, and a 10.4 km run mixing white sand with shaded singletrack. The sprint uses 0.75, 19.2, and 5.2 km legs. August is green season, so wet roots and afternoon rain can turn the ridgelines slower than their modest altitude suggests.
