Ironman Wisconsin

September 13, 2026140.61256 m gain

Running since 2002, Wisconsin is one of the oldest full-distance races in the US: a 2.4-mile Lake Monona swim, then two bike loops through Dane County farmland with around 1,256 metres of climbing and almost no flat to recover. The helix spiral up to transition is a local quirk; the relentless rollers and exposed wind are the real test. Mid-September runs 11 to 23 degrees. Entry near 900 dollars and a hard 17-hour cutoff make this a costly, unforgiving day.

Better info coming — we're still verifying 3 fields on this race.

Why we'd pick it

  • Serious climbing — 1256 m of gain. Respect the cutoffs.
  • Open registration — no lottery to lose.
  • Race day usually sits 11–23°C, about 30% chance of rain.

The course

A 2.4-mile swim in Lake Monona, a two-loop 112-mile bike through the farm roads of Dane County around Verona, Mount Horeb and Cross Plains, and a marathon finishing on Capitol Square. The 'helix' parking-ramp spiral up to transition at Monona Terrace is a local quirk; the bike's roughly 4,120 feet of relentless rollers and exposed wind are what break people.
