Run by the Marines through Washington's monuments, the MCM passes the Pentagon, Lincoln Memorial and Capitol before a hard uphill finish to the Iwo Jima memorial. It's 'The People's Marathon,' open registration with no prize money, but the roughly 30,000 spots vanish fast once it sells out. The real bite is the 'Beat the Bridge' cutoff: reach mile 20 slower than 14 minutes a mile and a bus, not the finish, takes you home.
Better info coming — we're still verifying 1 field on this race.
Why we'd pick it
- 213 m of climbing: rolling, not pancake-flat.
- Open registration — no lottery to lose.
- A non-racing partner gets a real weekend here — 4/5.
- Race day usually sits 7–17°C, about 30% chance of rain.
The course
Run by the Marines on a point-to-point through Washington's monuments, from Arlington past the Pentagon, Lincoln Memorial, the Capitol and the Mall before a final uphill push to the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima). About 213 meters of total gain over a mostly flat course, with an early climb on Langston Boulevard and the highest ground near 70 meters. Known as 'The People's Marathon,' with no prize money and a strict 14-minute-per-mile cutoff at the 14th Street Bridge.
