Additional support
If phones stop working
Cell service can be unreliable around the finish, so the plan must work without a live map or message. Pick one primary reunion address, one later fallback at the hotel, and a time when everyone stops moving between locations.
Write the runner's full name, bib number, hotel, emergency contact, and any critical medical information on paper. The support crew should know which official information channel to check rather than chasing an unverified social post.
- Do not make the finish-line fence the only meeting point.
- Keep one adult responsible for children and one for runner updates.
- For a non-urgent problem, move away from crowds before troubleshooting.
Plan for international and accessibility needs
International travelers should know how their insurance expects them to obtain urgent and non-urgent care, carry policy and medication information in English when practical, and keep essential medicine in hand luggage.
Athletes with disabilities, guides, support runners, and spectators who need accommodations should confirm current procedures directly with NYRR before race week. Save the organizer correspondence with the registration and emergency plan.
- Use NYRR's accessibility contact for event accommodations.
- Share mobility, sensory, communication, or medical-device needs before arriving at the expo or start.
- Choose a reunion and hotel fallback that the whole group can actually access.
