The crew’s weekend

A little city time for the whole crew

Explore these outings on Saturday or Monday. On race day, build around the cheer stops and reunion instead of squeezing in another attraction.

An indoor day

American Museum of Natural History

An indoor choice for the crew while the runner rests. Choose a few halls rather than trying to see the whole museum.

Allow 90–120 minutes for a focused visit; indoor walking and standing. Editorial visit allowance, not a tour duration.

Plan this for Saturday or Monday. Tickets and special exhibitions have their own availability; race-day access around Central Park requires extra planning.

Outside in the city

Conservatory Water

A small Central Park destination for a gentle stroll and a sit by the water, rather than a full-park expedition.

Allow 30–45 minutes around the pond, plus your approach. A short outdoor outing; editorial allowance.

A Saturday or Monday idea. Check park and race closures; do not assume model-boat rentals or other seasonal services are operating.

Outside in the city

Pier 1, Brooklyn Bridge Park

Skyline views and a short waterfront outing for a Brooklyn-based group. Let the runner choose how far to walk.

Allow 30–60 minutes for views and a sit-down, plus your journey. Editorial allowance; longer if you explore the park.

Keep this separate from a tight race-day transfer. Check current park access and weather before setting out.

Sunday belongs to the cheering

Choose a realistic number of stops, find a cafe for a break, and agree on reunion before phones get crowded.

Outing notes

Give Saturday two different jobs

The runner needs a low-step administration day; the non-runner does not need to spend it watching the runner organize socks. Split after the expo or breakfast and choose one compact activity near the hotel or the crew's preferred neighborhood.

Agree on the dinner time, hotel return time, and ten-minute logistics review before separating. This protects the trip for the companion without turning Saturday into a negotiation over every subway ride.

  • The runner keeps the race kit and essential documents at the hotel.
  • The companion keeps a hotel key, reunion address, and independent payment method.
  • Everyone returns before the runner's tested dinner and sleep routine begins.
